Father, Heal My Sinful Heart

As I looked at this today, what flashed across my mind was the outward picture of the inside of the human heart; fractured and desperately in need of the Father's healing. Jesus tells the Pharisees in Matthew 23, "The inside of your cup is filthy (the heart) while the outside is all shiny". He was speaking to the religious person in all of us. He knew that our speech could be smooth as butter at the same time our heart was filled with deceit (Psalm 55). God later tells us in II Corinthians 5 that we all need to be reconciled to Him. The other picture I saw was God's hand on our sin-sick hearts and bodies as we bring our brokenness to Him. I see His power to heal as we surrender our whole being. He desires "truth in the inner man" (Psalm 51) as well as the outer man so we cannot only receive but carry the fullness of Him within us. The less cracks in a vessel the more water it can carry. An essential role I play as a prayer counselor is to help those in pain find the freedom of Godly repentance and appropriate the wholeness Jesus died to redeem. But Godly repentance starts with the awareness of sin at the heart level. God does not put new patches on old garments. Since the word salvation means wholeness or healing (from the Greek) this is our perfect invitation to ask God to bring to light those things that need healing. Let Him know you need His help and don’t forget to ask His forgiveness for the times you felt you couldn't trust Him with your hurt and sin. This is the way of the Cross and it will bring you great peace and happiness. I promise.
